Building Meal Plans

The Plan Builder is the core feature of NutriPlanit — a drag-and-drop weekly planner organized as a 7-column grid.

Creating a New Plan

1
Go to Meal Plans and click New Plan, or use the Quick Action on the Dashboard.
2
Fill in the settings modal: Client (required), Start Date, Status, Dietitian Name, Clinic Name, and Notes.
3
Click Save Settings to start building.

The Plan Grid

Each day column (Mon–Sun) has 7 meal slots plus two additional rows:

#Row
1Pre-Breakfast
2Breakfast
3Lunch
4Dinner
5Snack
6Nutraceuticals
7Before Bed
Supplements (one slot per day)
Workouts (one slot per day)

Adding Meals, Supplements & Workouts

1
Open the sidebar on the left (click the arrow if collapsed).
2
Select the Meals, Supplements, or Workouts tab.
3
Browse or search the library. Drag an item from the sidebar and drop it onto the desired day and slot.

You can place multiple meals in the same slot. Hover over any item and click X to remove it.

Daily Totals & Indicators

Each day column footer shows combined Calories, Protein (P), Carbs (C), and Fat (F). If calorie targets are set on the client, a status indicator appears:

Green checkmark — On target
Amber down arrow — Under target
Red up arrow — Over target

A progress bar visualizes how close each day is to the target. The top bar shows weekly average calories and protein across all 7 days.

Copying a Day

To duplicate an entire day's meals, supplements, and workouts:

1
Click the copy icon in the day column header.
2
A dialog shows the other 6 days — select the target day.
3
All items are copied over (the target day's previous content is replaced).
Build Monday's meals first, then copy it to similar days (e.g., Wednesday) to save time.

Plan Settings & Saving

Click the gear icon in the top bar to edit settings (client, dates, status, dietitian name, clinic name). Click Save in the top bar — new plans are created; existing plans are updated in place.

Save often — click the Save button in the top-right corner of the plan builder regularly to avoid losing work.

Exporting Plans to Word

Export any saved meal plan as a .docx Word document for printing or sharing with clients.

1
Open the plan in the plan builder.
2
Make sure the plan is saved — the Export button is disabled for unsaved plans.
3
Click the Export button in the top bar.
4
A [client-name]-meal-plan.docx file will download automatically.

What's Included in the Export

  • Client name and plan title
  • Dietitian name and clinic name (from plan settings)
  • Full 7-day meal schedule with nutrition info
  • Supplement assignments per day
  • Workout assignments per day

Tracking Followups

Followups help you track client progress over time — weight changes, compliance, and session notes.

Followups Page

The global Followups page shows all records across all clients. The Upcoming section at the top shows cards for future-dated followups, color-coded by urgency (red = today, blue = future). Use the Status Filter to view: All | Scheduled | Completed | Missed.

Quick-Start Workflow

New to NutriPlanit? Follow this recommended workflow to go from zero to your first client plan.

1
Build Your Meal Library
Add meals your clients commonly eat. Include nutrition values and tags so you can find them easily later. Add meals across all 7 categories so you have options for every time slot.
2
Add Supplements & Workouts
If you prescribe supplements or recommend exercises, add them to their respective libraries now.
3
Create a Client
Add your client's profile with demographics, health conditions, allergies, and calorie targets. The auto-calculated BMI, BMR, and TDEE help guide your target-setting.
4
Build a Meal Plan
Create a new plan, drag meals into each day's slots, add supplements and workouts, and watch the daily totals to ensure calorie targets are met. Use the day-copy feature for similar days. Save the plan.
5
Export & Share
Export the plan as a Word document and share it with your client via print, email, or messaging.
6
Track Progress
Create followup records to track the client's weight, compliance, and progress over time. Use the Followups page to manage upcoming sessions.

Tips & Best Practices

Tag your meals generously — tags make searching much faster when building plans.
Use the BMI Calculator before setting calorie targets to get evidence-based recommendations.
Set calorie targets on the client profile — the plan builder will show green/amber/red indicators so you can balance the plan at a glance.
Record medical conditions and allergies — they appear as a banner in the plan builder so you never forget them while planning.
Use Draft status while building — switch to Active when the plan is finalized and shared with the client.
